cosmetic questions answered
Posted on August 17th, 2008 by admin
Each night I try and prepare a cosmetic surgery question to answer and discuss, however I find it more rewarding when a question is asked for which I have an answer. Although each patient is different, there are procedures that work well for every cosmetic surgery patient. In any event, if a someone would like to comment or a question answered, don’t hesitate!

Dr. Livingston,
Thank you so much for providing this blog as a resource to your patients or potential patients. Personally, I feel that it will be a great help as I continue to prepare for what is to come. Each time I check in I look forward to seeing what new questions or comments have been posted.
Again….Thank Yo!

Dr Livingston,
I bet this is pretty weird getting an e-mail from a guy about plastic surgery. I’m 18 years old and active with playing football, basketball and baseball and I work out. I’m pretty toned and buff in almost all the right places, except I have bird legs and I’m pretty damn tired of the remarks. I’m not so sure about all of this plastic surgery stuff, but my girlfriend suggested it. She has to look at me, so I guess I should do something. She said I should ask about calf implants. Is this really something that can be done and do you do it? If I had it done, I’d like to be pretty discreet about it too. What would be worse……the remarks aobut my bird legs or the remarks about Paul having implants?
So, I guess if you have any information on this, I’d like to hear what you have to say. And yes…..we chose you because your last name is Livingston. Not a very technical way of choosing a doctor, but with a name like livingston, you have to be good!
Thanks,
Paul
calf implants are a relatively easy procedure however have many complications including infection, malposition, asymmetry, and extrusion. Certainly, as long as the patient understands these risks and has realistic expectations, it can be a very satisfying operation. Sometimes, fat can be transfered in this area as well. Call my office to set up an appointment. DR L
I know that everyone is different, but are calf implants something you have alot of experience in and do you reccommend? Have you had alot of success with this? You mentioned having realistic expecations. I’m not sure that mine are…I expect to come out looking really good with calves that match rest of my body. If this doesn’t happen the first time, is i a process where I’ll go in for sevefral surgeries until i looks right or do I just deal with however it turns out the first try? As far is injecting with fat….wouldn’t that make my legs look fat and flabby? Another thing that my parents were concenred about is that I’m, as they put it, ONLY 18 and that I still have more developing to do. Do you think 18 is too young to have a procedure like this done?
Thanks Dude,
Paul
Dr. Livingston,
I have a 14 year old daughter who absolutely hates her nose. She is a beautiful and smart little girl who is miserable and depressed. She has mentioned getting a nose job and of course with her being so young, her father and I have always said absolutely no….atleast for now. However, it pains me to see her so upset, especially knowing what a beautiful girl she is, but she is blinded by this one problem. I think as she enters her high school years, this will only get worse. My concern is her age. In your professional opinion, how do you feel about this type of procedure being done on someone so young? I don’t want to get her hopes up too high as she doesn’t know we are consdiering this at all. After my husband and I discuss this some more, would you be willing to have a consultation with just my husband and myself so that we can get more information, including the risks involvoved with someone so young, or would you actually have to Lauren with us? Dr. Livingston, you have a wonderful reputation and I’ve heard many good things about you and do highly value your advice on this difficult matter. I look forward to hearing from you either on this forum or at my personal e-mail.
Kindest Regards,
Barbara Ann Lieberman
Interestingly, I know all to well the psychological impact of having a rhinoplasty. I would be happy to see you and your daughter in consultation. Depending on the deformity, I usually advise to wait until 16-18 years of age prior to a cosmetic rhinoplasty. DR L
Dr. Livingston,
I am a recently widowed, 75 year old grandmother. I’ve spent my whole life caring for my husband, children and now grandchildren. While i’ve loved every aspect of my life and all of these roles, I feel like it’s time to take care of me now. To the shock of my family, I actually don’t want to forever be the grieving widow. Something I’ve always wanted to do, which my husband found rediculous, was to have this stupid little crooked bump removed from my nose. Along with that, I say why not see what other facial procedures i can have done…botox? facelift? While I will forever hold my husband dear to my heart, I’d like to see what this next chapter in my life will be….before the conclusion. (I’m not ready for that yet)!!! However, I know as we age, bone density and such diminishes, which can make surgeries, especially elective, not advisable.
So, Dr. Livingston, if you can humor an old lady here, I very much look forward to hearing back from you and see if you can help in writing the next chapter of my life. Who knows, we may even want to discuss breast implants for this old lady !!!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go finish my profile and Matchmaker.com. (that was a joke….maybe!)
In all seriousness, I do look forward to hearing back from you. You seem like a very knowledgable young man and I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
Sincerely,
Olivia
The aging face can be improved with noninvasive procedures such as botox and soft tissue fillers(restylane, ect), as well as chemical peels and laser resurfacing. Surgical procedures, such as facelift, browlift, and necklift surgery can truly transform the aged and tired look. Nose surgery can compliment these procedures. I would be happy to discuss this further in a consultation. Without the consultation it is difficult, if not impossible, to come up with an affordable and appropriate plan. DR L 7137970085
Dr. Livingston,
I’ve heard from a friend that you do botox parties. What can I do to shcedule one of these for myself and several girlfriends. Also, will you come to my home to do this?
Thanks!
Jen
I can add you to the email list for the botox parties, I believe we are having another one the first week of December. Unfortunately, I do not have botox parties outside of my office.
Dr. Livingston,
I have a cousin who lives down in South Texas. She gave birth to a baby yesterday that was born without ears. Microtia is what I believe she called it. I know there are some instances where something can be done to help children like these, but I honestly don’t trust the medical care she is getting down there and would like to bring them here to the medical center in Houston. Would you be willing to look at him to see if there is anything that can be done. Is this something that can be done immediately or is there a minimum age requirement??
Your advice on this is eagerly awaited.
Best Regards,
Concepcion Reyna
My partner Fred Aguilar, MD has written extensively on microtia and is the best in Houston. He has over 20 years of experience in treating children with microtia. Please call our office to schedule 7137970085
So I should schedule with him then and not you???
I am trying this again…something strange just happened. My post just showed up under somebody else’s name. My question was that you think I should schedule with Dr. Aguilar rather than yourself then? I have heard great things about your work.
Thank You,
Concepcion
Dr Aguilar is more experienced in this operation and I would trust him with my own children
